Boys vs Girls
Day 1
Sixteen strangers are traveling on a boat up the Rio Negro in the Amazon Rainforest to begin the adventure of a lifetime. Host Jeff Probst begins calling names to divide the tribes. One by one, he calls Jeanne Hebert, Heidi Strobel, JoAnna Ward, and Jenna Morasca to climb down to the yellow boat, but once Jeff calls for Christy Smith, the cast realizes what the twist of the season is going to be.
The two tribes meet with Jeff at the first Immunity Challenge. Jeff asks how both have been faring. Tambaqui says that they are doing fine; they even have a lot of fish. Jaburu also says that they have some fish. Neither tribe believes the other. Jeff reveals the Immunity Idol and gets to the rules of the challenge.
The tribes will be chained together and must navigate through an obstacle course. After each station is completed, each tribe must gather a series of keys to unlock sections of a chain, which are blocking the finish line. One member must then retrieve a flying fox which will lead to the key that unlocks the final gate for the rest of the tribe. The first tribe to unlock all the sections of the chain and cross the finish line wins immunity.
Both tribes start neck and neck. The men take the lead after getting through the tough nut obstacle, with the women right behind them. Each tribe sends a group to do the message puzzle, and the men once again finish first, now in four pairs heading to the balance beam, while the women still work on their puzzle. The men have some difficulties with the balance beam, especially Daniel and Ryan, allowing the women to catch up. The race is neck and neck again. Jeanne and JoAnna do the puzzle for Jaburu, while Dave and Rob do the puzzle for Tambaqui. Jaburu complete it first, allowing Heidi to unlock the flying fox and zip down the line to grab the last key. The gate is unlocked, and Jaburu crosses the finish line in victory.
Back at Jaburu camp, the women are glad that they put the men on the spot. Janet starts feeling better, and everyone feels more confident that they can handle themselves just as well as the men can, maybe even better.
