Bunking with the Devil

Night 13
At Ta Keo, a boat pulls up to the shore with Jeff Probst on board. He wakes up Terry Deitz and tells him that he got a phone call from Terry’s wife that his son, Danny, is in the hospital, and his condition is serious enough that he needs to go home. Jeff says he knows it’s a shock and he wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t serious. Terry goes to grab his bag so he can leave with Jeff. He tells his tribe that his son is in the hospital and he has to go home.

Everyone hugs him goodbye, while Kass McQuillen states that she can’t imagine how it must feel to get a call that something has happened to your child. She explains that it’s a reminder of how quickly things can change. Keith Nale remarks they need to win this for Terry now as he leaves with Jeff for good, finishing in 15th.

Day 14
When the tribes convene for the challenge, Jeff announces that Terry is gone, stating that he had a family emergency and one of his kids is sick.

The other tribes are shocked at the news, as Andrew Savage claims he would have run to the airport. Although they all love the game, he believes that family is bigger than that. The parents among the castaways agree that they would all do what Terry did and are all upset that this happened to him, including Kelly Wiglesworth who said she would swim home. Ciera Eastin, a young mom, says she told her husband that if something happened, she would go home, too. Joe Anglim says that while it took the wind out of their sails a bit, they are going to continue to work hard. Jeff then reveals to them that another tribe swap will commence.

Andrew is excited, as they will be back down to two tribes with Angkor being dissolved. They open their buffs and have to reorganize. Woo Hwang, Andrew, and Abi-Maria Gomes are together with Kass, Spencer Bledsoe, and Ciera. Kass is hesitant about being in a tribe with Spencer, who refers to her as his nemesis. Kelley Wentworth is the only original Ta Keo on the new Bayon tribe, worrying her. Stephen Fishbach, who was also put on Bayon, states that there are many alphas on his new tribe, those being Jeremy Collins, Joe, Tasha Fox, and others. The new tribes are as follows:

Day 15
Back at Ta Keo, the tribe settles in with their new teammates and sits down for their picnic reward. Spencer asks Kass how it was at Ta Keo, and she replies that the four of them were low drama non-schemers. Andrew is relieved that they’re out of the hell hole that was Angkor, and they all toast with their fried chicken. While Andrew thinks Spencer has a great heart, he knows Kass can’t stand Spencer and plans to leverage this in his favor.

Over at Bayon, the tribe is bickering. Keith gets on to Kimmi Kappenberg about the fire and Joe and Kelley talk about the work ahead, saying they need to try and find a way to keep her here. He wants Kelley as a number for the impending merge, and would rather have Stephen and Kimmi go before her. Joe talks to Tasha and Stephen about Kimmi and how she’s not great at the challenges, while Stephen questions why they would break up the original Bayon. He runs to Jeremy and informs him that Joe is plotting against Kimmi. Although he’s eager to go after Joe, Jeremy states that he doesn’t want Joe to go first, secretly wanting to keep him around as a shield. He tells Stephen he’s bugging and to calm down. Despite this, he then goes to Tasha and tries to turn her towards targeting Joe anyways. Stephen gets emotional in a confessional, remembering that he put so much into the game last time, only to come up short. He regrets not taking out the “golden boy” when he had the chance to last time and is afraid of wasting his second chance by making that same mistake again. Stephen is convinced getting Joe out is the big move of the season.
