Too Little, Too Late?

Following the terrible storm from last episode, Pagong noticed Ramona being visibly pale and sick the whole night.

The tribe felt uncomfortable about sleeping in the hut that B.B. made (before he got voted off) and decided to dismantle the old shelter and relocate to a higher ground.

I have spent six years at the Air Force Survival School. You know, we learned how to make fires and shelters. When we got here, we argued over where the shelter should be, and everything I’ve always been taught, you know, you put it off the beach, you get canopy cover, which is your first layer of protection, but we made this huge shelter, which was not comfortable and it’s not practical. It’s a rain forest, so it was going to pour one of these times, and it poured, and we got soaking wet, and I just thought, “This is ridiculous” you know. And also, the gear is everywhere. –Gretchen Cordy

The Reward Challenge was held at the comfort of the tribes’ camps. Jeff told Dirk of Tagi and Jenna of Pagong that they will have to construct a distress signal. The most recognizable would win. The plane would arrive the next day.

Throughout their time on the island, the tribes will compete in a series of challenges. They’ll receive messages notifying them of these competitions at Tree Mail. Today’s Mail informs both tribes about their next Reward Challenge called “Distress Signal.” They’ll build an S.O.S. on their respective beaches. A plane flying overhead will determine whose signal is the most creative and parachute in a crate full of supplies. Both tribes have been instructed to send a representative to see the creature comforts they’ll be competing for. Things like hammocks, towels and pillows. But Jenna and Dirk have each requested one additional item be placed into the crate.

As the plane arrived, the tribes prepared for their distress signals. Pagong’s signal was a smiley face with tribe members running frantically around the beach; while Tagi wrote “Tagi is Groggy” along their shoreline with their tribe members lying on the sand while wearing their brightly-colored rain ponchos. The plane flew overhead, the pilot judged Tagi’s distress signal to be more visible than Pagong’s, and dropped a trunk of spices to Tagi as a reward.

Later, Richard discussed strategy with Kelly and Susan, saying that they’d be stronger if they formed an alliance. They decided to invite Rudy to be the fourth member of their voting bloc, although Rudy was having second thoughts about it.
